I've written a detailed report on how to successfully land freelance projects. I have been freelancing for a decade now and have reached a point where I can land nearly any job or client that I set my eyes on.

There are some tips and tricks about your proposal that will put you above the rest of the hundred freelancers hungry for the same job. They're all in my report!

I've started a new freelance blog at http://freedomfreelancing.blogspot.com/

People can also go directly to the site to get the report at www.virtualfreelanceguide.com

Cheers to successfully working from home!

Funnily enough I came across this site by accident and reading the comments above thought to myself: "Gees that writer's voice so sounds like mine!" And it was my own comments from some time ago. These days I am working fulltime as an emplyment consultant / life coach but my passion is still writing. As for the job boards- stick with the good ones but don't sell yourself short. I now have some great clients that I came across through winning bids. Good luck! Cheers: Dianne

I agree totally with your comments regarding the wasted time, effort and creative energy that goes into writing articles for a measly amount of money- unfortunately I have fallen victim to my own insecurities by believing that I needed this type of work. These days I prefer to spend my time more wisely, and market my services to local businesses, clients that are looking for long term relationships as well as work on my own website and book. Good luck to you all- and keep on writing if that is your passion!

I've found some of my best clients through boards- but not necessarily the freelance job boards. Too many of them have overseas people bidding literally a few cents per article. You can't win against that- if cheap is what the client wants, then that's what they will hire. And cheap bids (typically) equal cheap, unoriginal work- why would you want to spend an hour or two (or more) researching a topic and more time in writing the article for only a couple of dollars (or less). I agree with the statement that the clients are what you want, not the job. And if you make a habit of accepting $2-3 for a 500 word article, you're not likely to have a very successful (or at least profitable) career.

Smart freelancers will want to bid for clients and not jobs. Big money doesn't come to those who bid against cheap overseas work. Instead, the best $$ comes from finding local clients, building the relationship so that you're the "go to" person whenever there's a need in your area of expertise, and then building on that to land more clients. If all you focus on is bidding jobs, you'll be constantly wondering where your next project is going to come from and who is going to underbid you.

There's a new online site to help freelancer techies in the USA: www.freelancelocaltech.com. It's designed to help market freelancers in their local community to clients who want to hire local freelancers. Check it out!
