I spent several months trying to win freelance projects on Elance. I started using the advice in this blog: http://freelancemoney.wordpress.com/ and have been working consistently ever since. Can be “salesy” at times, but the information is invaluable. Read it!

I started off writing when I had a day time job but then again I don't enjoy working in the office so I took flight and be a freelance writer. So far, everything is good and I am glad that I took the decision to be a freelance writer.

Great article! I have connections to a couple freelance employers already, but have trouble staying on task. The big stumbling blocks for me are: the TV and getting sidetracked doing my own research online!

These are good tips BUT, it is important mention that you should make sure you aren't putting in less quality at your day job because of your freelancing. Your day job is still paying you and does deserve your dedication. I am guilty of this myself ;P

Wow! This is a very thorough article with lots of great advice. IN terms of avoiding distraction, I tend to put my phone on 'do not disturb' so that I can work for an hour at a time without interruptions. Reducing the number of times you check your email in an hour is also a great way to increase productivity.

Great article; it's great to have all this specific advice.

I'd like to elaborate on your point about a flexible employer. No matter who your employer is, here's why you have to be honest about starting a company while employed.
